A boss is different than a leader. A boss can be a leader – but not necessarily.
There is no perfect boss because everyone makes mistakes. However, managers work harder and create a work environment that’s fair, pleasant and friendly.
A real leader knows the difference between being a leader and being someone people will get behind.
The boss drives his workers; the leader coaches them.
The boss depends upon authority; the leader on goodwill.
The boss inspires fear; the leader inspires enthusiasm.
The boss says “I”; the leader says “We”
The boss fixes the blame for the breakdown; the leader fixes the breakdown.
A boss can provide good or bad leadership. But a good leader can never be a bad boss. A leader understands the strengths and weaknesses of their team members and can delegate tasks and authority to people in an appropriate way. Workers may respect the boss, but everyone loves the leader.
